Intraosseous lines in preterm and full term neonates.
AIM To evaluate the use of intraosseous lines for rapid vascular access in primary resuscitation of preterm and full term neonates. METHODS Thirty intraosseous lines were placed in 27 newborns, in whom conventional venous access had failed. RESULTS All the neonates survived the resuscitation procedure, with no long term side effects. CONCLUSION Intraosseous infusion is quick, safe, and ef...
متن کاملThe feasibility of inducing mild therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac resuscitation using iced saline infusion via an intraosseous needle.
OBJECTIVE This study was done, using a swine model of prolonged ventricular fibrillation out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, to determine the feasibility of inducing therapeutic hypothermia after successful resuscitation by giving an intraosseous infusion of iced saline. METHODS This study was IACUC approved. Liter bags of normal saline, after being refrigerated for at least 24h, were placed in a...

متن کاملComparison of the Fluid Resuscitation Rate with and without External Pressure Using Two Intraosseous Infusion Systems for Adult Emergencies, the CITRIN (Comparison of InTRaosseous infusion systems in emergency medicINe)-Study
INTRODUCTION Intraosseous infusion is recommended if peripheral venous access fails for cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other medical emergencies. The aim of this study, using body donors, was to compare a semi-automatic (EZ-IO®) device at two insertion sites and a sternal intraosseous infusion device (FASTR™). METHODS Twenty-seven medical students being inexperienced first-time users were r...
متن کاملComparison of two intraosseous infusion systems for adult emergency medical use.
INTRODUCTION The current guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) stipulate that an intraosseous access should be placed if establishing a peripheral venous access for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) would involve delays. The aim of this study was therefore to compare a manual intraosseous infusion technique (MAN-IO) and a semi-automatic intraosseous infusion system (EZ-IO) us...
